Amid the ongoing controversy, Vietnamese users have reportedly called on the Vietnamese government to boycott PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS. However, the reported network restrictions have affected not only PUBG but also Steam, leaving users who play other games on the platform unable to access their games.

Although PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS was distributed through unofficial channels in Vietnam, Steam also reportedly lacked the required publisher licensing. The Vietnamese government is said to have classified Steam as an unauthorized gaming platform and requested that access from Vietnam be blocked. The restriction has reportedly been implemented.

TanVuu attempted to stream another game on Steam instead of PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS but was unable to connect to the platform.

He eventually connected to an alternative private server. Such private servers are also reportedly considered unauthorized and illegal under Vietnamese law
